Umbria is a beautiful region located in the heart of Italy, known for its picturesque hilltop towns, rich history, and delicious cuisine. Here’s a travel itinerary to help you explore the best of Umbria:

Day 1: Arrive in Perugia
Perugia is the capital city of Umbria and is easily accessible by train from Rome. Spend the day exploring the city’s historic center, which is surrounded by ancient Etruscan walls. Visit the impressive Palazzo dei Priori, the Fontana Maggiore, and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. In the evening, take a stroll through the lively Corso Vannucci, where you can find many bars and restaurants.

Day 2: Assisi
Assisi is a charming medieval town and the birthplace of St. Francis, the patron saint of Italy. Take a train or bus to Assisi and explore the town’s narrow streets, shops, and cafes. Visit the Basilica of San Francesco, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to beautiful frescoes by Giotto. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Eremo delle Carceri, a peaceful retreat in the woods where St. Francis used to pray.

Day 6: Spoleto and the Valnerina
Spend the day exploring the town of Spoleto and the nearby Valnerina region. Visit the impressive Rocca Albornoziana fortress and the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. In the afternoon, head to the Valnerina, which is known for its natural beauty and stunning waterfalls. Visit the Cascata delle Marmore, which is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Italy, and take a hike in the nearby Monti Sibillini National Park.

Day 7: Departure
On your last day, take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Perugia and enjoy one last cup of Italian coffee before heading back to Rome or your next destination.
