Azores Airlines Expands Direct Flights Network with New Routes Connecting North America, Europe, and the Azores

June 1, 2024 By admin Leave a Comment

Azores Airlines is set to expand its network with a series of new direct flights beginning in June. These include routes from North America to Porto and Funchal, flights from Ponta Delgada to Faro in the Algarve, and connections from Ponta Delgada to Milan, Italy. The inaugural flights commence on June 1 with a direct service from Toronto to Funchal. This will be followed by flights from New York to Porto and Ponta Delgada to Faro. On June 4, direct flights from Porto to Boston and from Boston to Funchal will begin, and on June 5, the airline will start services between Ponta Delgada and Milan. Additionally, from June 7, direct flights between Toronto and Porto will be launched. Among these new services, the airline will also reintroduce its twice-weekly connections between Ponta Delgada and London.

These new routes represent a collaborative effort between Azores Airlines and various stakeholders, including national and regional tourism entities, promotion and travel agents, and local representatives. This concerted effort is expected to boost demand significantly, potentially exceeding the levels recorded in 2023. For the summer of 2024, Azores Airlines has increased its regular flight operations by approximately 26% compared to the previous year’s IATA summer season.

Graça Silva, the Director of Sales, Marketing, and Communication at Azores Airlines, emphasized the strategic partnerships and concerted efforts behind these new routes. She highlighted that these expansions offer greater options for passengers traveling to and from the Azores, as well as between Europe and North America. Silva noted that these investments will reinforce the airline’s growth trajectory observed in recent years.

Beyond offering direct flights, Azores Airlines provides connectivity options between North America and Europe through brief stopovers in the Azores. The Azores Stopover program allows passengers to extend their stay in the Azores for up to seven days before continuing to their final destination. As the leading airline serving the Azores, Azores Airlines connects the archipelago to North America, Europe, including Mainland Portugal and Madeira, as well as Cape Verde.

According to the Azores Tourism Observatory, Azores Airlines was the preferred carrier for travelers to the Azores Archipelago during the high season of 2023. Recently, it was recognized as “Europe’s Leading Airline to North America 2024.” The airline’s operations are complemented by SATA Air Açores, which connects the nine islands of the Azores Archipelago, further enhancing the comprehensive service network.
